Concern about original tires on 2011 5th wheel
I purchased a 2011 Heartland Elkridge 29 footer at Camper World in Portland Oregon. Very clean and great layout and we felt the 30,000 was fair. My main concern was the undercarriage. Previous experience with 5th wheel under carriage including loosing wheels, over heated bearings that melted axel, blown tires, tires put on by Sears with an air gun resulting in the studs breaking off later and loosing a wheel, etc.
I was concerned about the wheels, brakes, and bearings on a 5 ear old RV that obviously had sat a few years possibly in a dirt drive. This was mentioned to Andy the sales guy and to the technician that gave us our walk through. Andy never replied to my letters or calls. The technician during walk through said he had no idea about the undercarriage. Because the RV was older and we have had two previous refers break down and a few other things, I bought the extended warranty for 2300 dollars. Dave the sales manager told me this would cover everything from hitch to bumper. I assumed that also meant the undercarriage until I read the small print. During late December and early January 2015 I continued asking for some documentation that about the tires, how much brake lining was left, and had the bearing been packed, and were the tires in good shape. One employee in the tech dept said they had been checked and later the sales director but no documentation that seemed to be required to obtain any satisfaction from the extended warranty.
I took off on a 1400 mile trip to my campground in Buckeye Az and about 800 miles blew one of the tires. The wire belts broke a I - 5. Replaced it with a spare that looked like it had never been used. In Buckeye I called Camper World in Portland speaking to the sales manager who said to get prices and call him back A local tire repair shop with a good reputation quoted 132 for the new tire. I drove to a Camper World on I 10 near Phoenix and they quoted me 245.70 for the same tire. Dave in Portland told me to buy the 132 tire and send him a copy and he would mail a check. I had also mentioned that the tire repair guy said that all of the tires should be replaced after checking the blown tire and the others. There are a few other concerns that I also mentioned.
There was no response on replacing the other three tires at the time this is being written. Reading the extended warranty it is not clear as to the responsibility of those tires and if they are or are not covered by the warranty.
My question is :....Are their any laws about a RV sales lot selling a used RV with poor tires or not providing proof they where inspected My same concern applies to the bearings and brakes... All of these are safety issues that could lead to injury or death on the road.
