My opinion is to self insure. You probably will not spend more than if you buy the extended warranty, and you don't have the hassle of dealing with the insurance company(paperwork, adjusters visits, battles over grey areas, increased rates due to claims filed, etc., etc.).
Even if I do spend a bit more to self insure, it probably is worth it to not have to deal with the insurance company. I can choose the repair facility on my schedule. If I'm on the road somewhere, it's already aggravating to have to repair something, but worse if the insurance company throws in more aggravation.
If you find a company that covers everything and delivers aggravation free service at a reasonable cost, let us know. I'll be the first to eat my words and sign up.
Cruz not sure if you have made a final decision or not. The above poster brings up a valid point in that you do have to wait at times to get repairs completed/approved. The warranty company inspector will generally come out to due an inspection to approve any repairs.
My experience has been that the inspections are not always completed in a timely fashion.
Dealing with a 3rd party vs. just you and the mechanic can be very frustrating/aggravating.
