Thanks all. Appreciate the honest feedback. One question that might put this entire thing to bed, is regarding rear hitch on the 5er.
With the lite 5’ers, do they come with a welded on hitch? I need a hitch on the rear to mount up 4 bikes, and some forums are saying that most DONT because of weight savings.
If this is the case, 5’er option is out.
Thank all for your help.
Some fifth wheels do come with a rear receiver. I know the Jayco Eagle HT s all come with a rear receiver capable of towing a 3000 pound trailer or holding up a 300-pound cargo rack. My new KZ came with a 200 pound capacity cargo rack that could easily be adapted to have a bike rack on it.
My old Komfort did not have a rear hitch but had a hell for Stout heavy frame. I had a local welder cut off the factory bumper and weld on a heavier tube then welded on a 2in receiver to that heavy tube. I was not planning on pulling any sort of trailer, only wanted to use it for a bike rack. I ended up selling it before I ever used it but my welder said that it would easily have held a cargo rack with 300 lb on it. That is always an option if you don't want to add a full-on, trailer capable, receiver, which is pretty easily doable and which a lot of people do.
