No, you are not "nuts" for wanting to change. The reality is, your "old needs" have changed so now you are considering alternatives to accommodate your "present needs". Nothing wrong with that. You simply want the right equipment for the right job, on a budget that fits your current situation.
I don't understand why so many uses the term "upgrade" when going from one type of camper to another. It's not an "upgrade" at all, it's a change in needs. And we all should be grateful the RV industry has provided a good variety of campers to accommodate everyone's "need" as well as our "wants" too.
Get the toy hauler and be happy!
I do not see any impact in your fuel mileage. You might even get slightly better if the trailer has a lower profile than your 5er. Also, with a trailer, you gain full use of the bed of your truck, in addition to the space in the toy hauler!
