^^^^^^^^You've hit on the crux of the problem. You don't know the connection has been lost until the monitor alerts you, which can be as long as an hour after it happens.
I know, because I had left the campground in the morning and all my sensors were showing the same reading after an hour, except one. Which was showing the same temp that it was when we left the campground about an hour earlier. Just as I started to pull over to check on it, it alerted that it had lost connection with the sensor. I moved the monitor around and it reconnected. But it is un-nerving to think that I had been unaware that I wasn't receiving correct information for an hour or so.
