Does the existing converter work well? If so, I'd just add a modest solar system to keep the battery bank charged between trips.

For direct replacement of a WFCO consider these two.

Otherwise about 60 amps of IOTA, PD, or Boondocker is all about the same.

50a system with only 1 A/C (for now); 2 6v Sam's golf cart batteries; possible solar in the future, but that will go direct to the batteries, bypassing the converter; Champion 2k genny for extreme situations. Rig is in storage, so no access to the paperwork to check. I just assume that it's a WFCO, but don't recall it being a multi-stage from reading the manual.

Your first step should be to figure out what you have now. Odds are it is a WFCO, and already supposed to be a 4 stage. Problem is they tend to not properly enter the mode, especially not entering boost mode.

If you have a deck mount converter, your options are opened up a little. But most of fifth wheels are going to have a combination power center with the converter built in. That makes it pretty painless to use a Progressive Dynamics 4600, which will install right into your existing power center. And it is an excellent converter.

But it all starts with knowing what you have now, including what amperage output it is rated for.

BFL13 has had great luck with the boondocker series. His does have adjustable voltage.

I have a PD which is only used as a back up device. Most charging is done with solar. When I'm being a power pole princess I use the Magnum inverter charger--which also allows me to optimize charging. Both my main methods do have temperature compensation.
