As a retired Air Force NCO, I thank you for supporting your son in his decision to serve his country and my condolences for your loss. Unfortunately, there will be people who will make light of your son's sacrifice, using the very freedom he fought and died to maintain. Ignore them, most people with any amount of decency will do the same.
