Back in the olden' days a friend built a "beach buggy" out of scrap stuff, big old flat bed with two rear axles and old baloon tires. it was 6 WD. He used a transfer case to drive both rear axles. However this home built rig never saw over 35 mph as it was on the sand at Pismo almost exclusively. It did work though, saw it do 6 wheel burnouts a time or two.
