This kind of enforcement goes back to the question of "safety". Can Anyone remember having voted for a 'Speed Limit'? And who decided what was 'safe' and acceptable, and what wasn't?
This type of situation is why I always suggest the course you've taken with the Class 7 truck. They will have less to complain about if take off stuff rather than add, to solve a problem.
You want to really make them unhappy? Use a class 8 with tandems for a 'Daily Driver'. Registered as an RV or MH, it'll make them scratch their heads when they stop you.
