Was able to talk to the local Costco Tire Store manager today to try to get clarification on what the warrantee would be on the Michelin Ribs 235/85 R16 tires for a 5th wheel. No mileage guarantee, No road hazard guarantee but Michelin would replace the tire if a manaufacturing defect showed up. Tire would be replaced on a Pro-rated basis based on tread depth. Would not be allowed to park truck and 5th wheel in Costco parking lot to bring one tire in at a time but would be allowed to park the truck and 5th wheel in the vacant lot next door and bring in one wheel at a time. Additional information on the 2006 Montana 3400RL Aluminum rims rated a 3,045 lbs. According to information on Montana Owners Club postings these same Aluminum Rims were approved in 2007 for 110 PSI and/or 3750 lb weight carrying capacity. Supposedly the older rims of this type were grandfathered in because no change had been made on these specific rims between 2006 and 2007. At the present time I do not plan to put Goodyear GS614's on this 5th wheel because I think it is overkill with 6,000 lb axles and therefore the issue may be moot. However, if I change my mind I will do considerably more research on the rims capability/reliability at 110 PSI. This thread is a continuation of the "Freestar Shredded" thread that has been closed by the moderator.

If cost is a concern, don't overlook the Bridgestone Duravis R250 which is very similar to the RIB at about $50 per tire less.Chris

I believe the best tires come with no milage warranty. Warrantys are sales gimmicks to move junk. You will most likly replace the tire do to age.

I suggest you consider Discount Tire for your tires. Costco would NOT provide steel stems on the tires (I had to supply), no road hazzard warranty and generally made the changeout difficult. Discount on the other hand provided steel stems at $3.00 each provided road hazzard insurance if I wanted, let me park next to their building, balanced all tires and replaced all tires with their manpower, filled with Nitrogen N/C, and generally I had a pleasant experience.

I agree, any manufacturer that touts their warranty over their product is likely in the junk business.

I have to agree at this point.Since putting michelin ltx's on the 5er to replace my bfg's due to recall they have been flawless during a hard,mountainous trip.I have 5000 miles of very hard work so far and still looking like new.

The first Discount Tire store I went to get a quote has been the most competent place so far IMHO and their quote for Michelin Ribs was competitive including added Road hazard warranty at deveral different tire shops in the western part of the country. The only thing I didn't think was very professional on their part based on the good reviews of Firestone Transforce HT's was the bad mouthing they did of these tires. They may have a valid reason to bad mouth the tires for reasons other than they don't sell them but it sure was a different feedback/recommendations than what I have received here on RV.net.

The local independant RV parts store that I have gone to for years has recommended a local tire sotre that I haven't done business with before. I'm going to get some quotes from them and see what the first impression of them is. Still haven't gotten quotes on the Firestone Transforce HT's yet either.

Found out my black tank drain is plugged(Added some special fluid to loosen stuff up now waiting) and getting pictures of the damage to the 5th wheel for insurance quotes has interfered with getting the tire quotes I need.

Costco has lots of company imposed "hang-ups".
Example: If you only purchase *two* tires for your pickup or car, they MUST be placed on the rear - as per company policy. Doesn't matter if you want them in the front. (You solve re-rotation).

Like everyone else (at Costco tire), you *will* have free Nitrogen fill.

The guy/s mounting your tires are interrupted every couple of minutes to check and/or top-off customers tires. Hey, it's free!
A simple job (mount 2 tires) that should take about 30 minutes - will be 2 hours.

As you have found, Discount Tire is a more practical source for XPS Ribs at approx the same cost.

BTW - usually at Discount or *any* tire store, you must do your own "due diligence" on tire brands.
With the exception of prices and warranty, your tire sales guy may know way less than you do - as he was the night manager at Taco Bell last week..:W

Tell a Discount Tire guy you need trailer tires, and he likely will tell you the merits of purchasing Carlisle ST..:R
