We have an Onan 5000 propane genny. We have gone without power in the rig due to a snow storm for three days on full generator power with our two 40# tanks on board. We will probably start out with parks and land with no facilities -- nothing too far out as we figure things out.
We still work for a living and live in DFW. Both time and locale limit our duration and opportunities to be out and about.
We are excited to find places to go where we aren't 8ft away from the rig next door and have so etching new to see and explore.
Sounds to me like we need to do some good planing and 'electricity math' before striking out.
Thanks to all. Hope to see you down the road.

Concentrate on going to State Parks and you get rid of the "neighbor in your door problem". While most only have Electric and Water it's not hard to go a weekend on that and dump on the way out. Cheaper too at $20/nite/site plus entry fees. Buy the Park Pass and you save more. We are currently at Eisenhower State Park at Lake Texoma and the full hookup sites are $23/day. 50A. Bastrop State Park has full hookups for $20/day also 50A.
I only go to commercial campgrounds when I am looking for a place to park my "mobile motel room" and all activities are away from the campsite. Then I don't really care how close they are as long as I have full hookups.
