This is a GREAT idea. I was just so hung up on it being opened or closed. I'll play around with this and try to figure something out. Modifying the hitch and/or trailer well may also work but seems like a lot of work.

LOL, who remembers when truck tailgates were held up with hooks and a length of chain?? You could adjust to any angle you wanted!
The chain sure did a number on the paint though!
