Quite possibly the plastic cut out from when the drilled the hole in the tank to install the plumbing, i.e., the inlet or the pickup for the water pump. The guys who do that job both for fresh water and waste water holding tanks use hole saws and tend to just let the cut-out fall into the tank. I had the black water tank valve refuse to close on my 2007 TT a couple months ago, and when I investigated, wedged in the valve was the cut-out.
Unless it happens to get in the line, as evidently yours did, it'll clog things up, so I dunno why they can't be bothered pulling it out while it's easy to do. Odds are that it'll be years before it afflicts you again.
That's the most likely cause of your problem, and it that was indeed it, it's otherwise as inert as the tank material itself. There is, of course, the possibility it is something else nasty. But not very likely that.
