Well, you could go for an M2 Freightliner with a Smart car loader between the cab and pin and not have to drive separately or tow doubles. :-) http://www.mountainmaster.net/smartcarloaders.html

UNDERkill on the high dollar MDT compared to an HDT, and
OVERkill on the high dollar Smart loader!..:S
HDT folks loading Smarts with winch and simple ramps.
UNloading = drive off.
Some drive them up as well.
Some folks carrying jeeps on the decks - but of course, can't be loaded sideways. Loaded from the rear with ramps.
Usually not singled (retain tandem axles).
BTW - (OP) compared to the deck options, "following" behind is a PITA..:W
