Roger welcome to RV.net. Sorry about the issues you've had with the front, I did some searching and couldn't find any issues about the Hobbi front but other Keystone units like the Outback have had issues. Doing a google image search I found a couple with wavy caps but none that were splintered. But several had the decals removed, which might be a sign of problems. Covering with diamond play should help with that, as long as you check the caulking to make sure water doesn't get under and in between the diamond plate and cap.
