Since we're fulltimers, we now have an HD DirecTV dish and upgraded to the Genie after we picked up the new RV. With the Whole House feature, we can tape 7 shows at once. 5 on the LR DVR and 2 in the BR and watch any from either DVR.
Both Dish and DirecTV dome antenna's have to toggle between 110 and 119. Dish also has to toggle with 129. Toggle means that the master receiver gets to pick the satellite, and the slave receiver can watch anything it wants, as long as the program is on the satellite the master receiver has selected. If the Master receiver is shut off, then the slave can take over the toggle.
I don't know what antenna you have, but it sounds like you all just get along with the channels on one of the two DirecTV satellites so your antenna doesn't have to toggle like it did with Dish.
All in all it wasn't a bad system, you just have to understand the compromise when going to a dome type antenna and the small dish with either service.
