Disc Brake conversion?

I am using flexible lines but these are rated for the pressure. It is definately not the lines. It is either the time it takes for the pump to respond to the brake voltage, the time it takes it to wind up to pressure or the signal from the controller that is causing the delay.

To thous who have a delai are you using solid lines or flexible.

I don't know if mine is any quicker but I have the Carlisle 1600 psi pump and no delay. That looked to be the preferred pump to use, so I got one. Craig

OK it sounds as if the delay I am experiencing is not normal. According to the gentleman at stopoyourtrailer a delay of 700ms is not unusual. As far as I can tell it seems to be in the wind up of the hydraulic pump. It certainly isn't air in the lines. I have bled the lines many times and it hasn't changed the delay. I will try the other brake controller and see if there is any difference. The pump is a Titan.

I have the Kodiak disk brakes on my 5er and they can't be beat. Best thing you can do to improve your trailer stopping. I would not be without them.

The only thing I would say about the disc brakes is that there is a noticeable lag between applying the brakes and the brakes activating which can be a little disconcerting. I am using the OEM Ford brake controller and I don't know if using another might work better. I have a Tekonsha which I am considering swapping to but am not sure about whether the OEM needs to be just disconnected or deprogrammed from the truck computer. I haven't been able to find a straight answer to this anywhere.

Don't know if your switching to the Tekonsha would be any better. The Ford Tow Command brake controller is made by (wait for it) TEKONSHA!

If you are having trouble with your controller and disk brakes just take two of your old magnets and strap them to your frame and wire them to the same wires that come from the truck controller (in parallel with the actuator wires) and it will make the controller think you are running electric brakes.

I use the Built in controller that chev put in and if there is a delay, The shear stopping power of the disc brakes more than makes up for it. I think it is a non-issue.about $1000 bucks delivered from etrailer. A full 8 hour day could get them installed. I took my time and it took 3 days puttering around. I would NOT buy a new trailer without disc brakes, and I've told salesmen so.
