Disc brake trial run

After our disc brake conversion in Sept. we headed south from Southern B.C. to Yuma, Az.(approx. 1700 miles). Stopping power is truly amazing & performed flawlessly when adjusted on the controller. Wish we had converted it sooner.

That always feel better when your done if you did it yourself. I have yet to hear anybody say they were sorry they went to disc.

If you don't mind me being nosy, what was the total price for the whole shebang? I read a couple posts that said disc brake conversion was around $1500, and I was thinking it was about a $1000 more than that.

You aren't being nosy. I paid just under $1600 U.S.$ from e-trailer for all parts (rotors, calipers, disc pads, bearings & seals, brake lines & brake tubing, electric/hydraulic actuator & brake controller. I'm from Canada and when the dust settled after the exchange rate & taxes it cost me about $2500 Canadian $
  • DIY Parts alone run $1500 to $1800, to have it done $2500 to $3000 is a ball park figure.

  • Path1 I went with what I have after some research here & on other sites. Are we Pleased ? Absolutely ! The only thing I had to buy extra for the install is 3 lengths of alum. angle to span the width of the 5er to mount the brake lines & of course DOT 3 brake fluid. As far as noise from the actuator I don't hear it. Unless I'm standing by the front compartment (where I mounted it) when somebody steps on the brake pedal. Other than that, perfecto.

Sounds like it worked out good for you. I want to be next to announce my disc brake conversion, but other projects are in the way.

Any reason why you went the brand you went with? Does your converter make more noise than you thought it would? Any advice for others going to disc brakes?
