Dish or Direct TV?

We use Dish because we can change local station when we move to a new area. However I really think that a person should change from one to the other every few years. They keep coming out with new things like the hopper or what ever and never offer it to long time loyal customers. They are really the same except for little items.

Then your situation doesn't apply to what I said in my post.

If you have Dish at home - using Dish on the road is cheaper and better.

If you have Direct at home - using Direct on the road is cheaper and better.

However, if you are like a lot of people, including me, and have a land-line cable provider at home - Dish no-contract is the best/ cheapest option in my opinion.

Correct - the HD is not available through a dome using Direct TV. Check out the Winegard website and it will give you a rundown.

At the present time (I believe) the only way to get HD with Direct is via the large SlimLine dish. There may be another option, but I haven't read about it.

I have had both and prefer DTV.

DISH offers twice the chance of having a clear shot from a given location over DIRECT. DISH programming is available from two different directions, one in the SW sky ( Western arc) and the other in the SE (Eastern arc) sky. The same 3 LNB antenna can be used to access programming from either direction. The Western Arc satellites are at 110, 119 and 129 orbital locations. The Eastern Arc satellites are at 61.5, 72.7 and 77 orbital location.

The arc that is installed at a home location is normally based on where a customer's HD locals are uplinked and their location relative to the Mississippi River.. Some local markets upload HD locals to both arcs (mine are that way). SD Locals are available from both arcs.

So, with DISH, when I get to a camping location, I look to see which Arc offers the best shot from TWO choices (DIRECT only offers one choice) adjust my antenna for the one that offers the best shot, and use that one. Few campers know about this. When I use the Eastern arc, I frequently have helpful folks try to tell me that my antenna is pointing in the wrong direction and it tilted the wrong way.

If you use Dish tailgater you can pay $10 more a month and get local channels anywhere you go without having to call in-no hassle-no contract. You can also turn it off and back on anytime you want to.

I've had both and prefer Dish...MUCH better customer service!
