Do you leave your fridge door open?

Our previous fifth wheel did not have an island, and I was able to leave the fridge and freezer doors open while the rig was in storage for months. The fridge stayed dry and fresh-smelling. The island in our new 5th wheel butts against the fridge door when the slides are retracted, so leaving the fridge door open is not possible. I'm concerned that over time this will cause an odor problem in the fridge. Anyone have a solution?

  • The doors only need to be open a little ways, but it sounds like a PP design.

  • Would changing the door from left to right or visa versa opening help. Most frig doors are reversible and you only need a small space open. Of course baking soda inside helps with odors.
  • You are absolutely correct, that if you close up the refrigerator, in a short while it will smell bad. Is there any way you can remove the doors of the refrigerator/freezer when not in use long term? The only other solution is to move the Island.
