Dodged a bullet this year

I was very busy this year and didn't get a chance to winterize my RV before cold weather in December. Luckily I went south for Christmas and had a chance to winterize before coming back to Kansas. Only damage done was my water filter needed to be replaced. I won't make this mistake again.

  • I took no chances and used anti-freeze just in case. I know cold weather damage is cumulative over time so hopefully it'll last for a long time.
  • The issue I worry about is a low place in a pipe run. I use the anti freeze. Also use it an unseated home I have.
  • I call horse **** to the droplets of moisture collecting, freezing and busting anything. I would call that not blown out properly. You hook up an air hose, not by using that worthless device that works like tire valve stem...rig up a proper air hose coupler to connect to city water, and flow 30psi through 1 fixture at a time until just air comes out. Then leave everything open.

Of course if you don't or can not do it properly it is best to go through all the glycol pumping etc.

Exactly what we do also, never had any issues. My neighbor has been doing it since he bought his Class C new back in 98.

I winterized mine 3 times since October and just traded in and got a new rig the Friday before X mas and its been used and winterized already.

I live in a resort area an many homes get winterized around here, we dont pump antifreeze throughout the home.

a droplet of water in the pipes is not going to hurt anything, you have to have a full column of water to expand and break a pipe or device.

for example a straw full of water and capped off will swell and crack. A half full straw will not crack as it has room for expansion.

Same thing a buddy of mine said until he hooked up his trailer in the spring and flooded it because enough water droplets collected and cracked the valve at the commode.
  • That droplet of water won't hurt the pipes. But with the cheap plastic faucets in the rigs today, that drop of water can very easily crack a faucet. RV anti-freeze is cheap.
