- SlownsyExplorerI have the EZ lube on TT Jacked op and greased with hand gun 2 times on 16000miles trip removed wheels cleaned and adjusted brakes on 3 wheals fine last seal blown and grease all over brakes so it dos happen. was seal damaged from new I don't know.
Frank - waltbennettExplorerJust finished doing two of the EZ-Lube wheels on our Montana. It's more hassle to jack a wheel up than to put in new grease, but be careful digging out the old as the hole in the cap has sharp edges & you'll cut yourself if not careful (I didn't quite do that). Also, since you're essentially repacking the whole spindle and bearing assembly, you'll be putting a lot of grease in. Close to a half a tube for each. Takes a little time and it's cumbersome to spin and pump at the same time, but it's not hard.

There may be a few ill-advised individuals using these but most knowledgeable people don't. It is very easy to blow a seal and get grease on the brakes. These things were designed for boat trailers that are often submerged in water. Having a hub full of grease keeps the water out. Dexter employees even advises not to use them
The Dexter EZ-Lube hubs are designed for RV and trailer use. Bearing Buddies are designed for boats and getting under water. About the ONLY way to blow out a seal on a Dexter EZ-Lube hub is by having some mechanic use an air powered grease gun or a manual one and pump the heck out of it, forcing too much in. Here's two instructional videos explaining how to lubricate EZ-Lube hubs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzW1kK8oWkc and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT0RKDGgDm8 - NMaceExplorer

And I ask again, Dexter employees advises not to use thrm? - fred42ExplorerIn addition to the written EZ lube instructions of:
- use Dexter approved grease
- no powered grease guns
- rotate wheel slowly while greasing
A Dexter tech also told me to:
- operate the manual grease gun with a slow steady pump, not the quick jerks one is accustomed to.
- pull the trailer before greasing to warm the grease in the hub.
- make sure the grease in the tube is not too cold, lay it in the sun for a while. - topjimmyExplorerSome of the Old timers just do not trust them ,like was said before they get bearing buddies mixed up with EZ lube FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS and do not use air grease guns and rotate the wheels as you are doing it and they work great when done right I have Never had a problem with the EZ lube system
- DHCamperExplorerIf you have Al-ko axles with Ultra lube disregard most of the previous comments. Ultra lube hubs love grease and will not contaminate brakes by oozing past seals. Here is the factory procedure for greasing;
"There is no need to lift the trailer before greasing axles equipped with Ultrulube:Remove the rubber plug from grease cap.Insert grease gun on the grease zerk.Pump until new grease begins to appear.Replace rubber plug"
All there is to it. No repacking necessary per Al-ko. Of course this does not replace periodically inspecting hubs components Al-ko recommends annually. - AllworthExplorer IINo Bearing Buddies!
I have over 70,000 miles on Dexter EZ-Lube hubs without a single problem.
Note 1: I do try to follow the instructions.
Note 2: EZ-Lube is a hub and bearing SYSTEM. Not something you can add to an existing hub. - sidneyExplorer

NO, I disassemble clean inspect and repack, that way I know they are good and well packed. :)
Do you replace the rear seal every time you remove the hub to inspect and repack? I thought I saw some where on Dexter's website this was required. - tvman44ExplorerNO, I disassemble clean inspect and repack, that way I know they are good and well packed. :)
