I would never consider double-towing as RVer's like to refer to it. But I ran into another camper last year that was traveling with a fiver and Harley trike, not a toy hauler. He had a light weight aluminum trailer for the trike and a hitch on the trike. He could actually tow the aluminum trailer with the trike if he got stopped.
Something like that could be the answer for you if worried about certain states. If you get stopped and they force you to unhook, just have the DW drive your rig and you hook up your trike to the trike trailer and away you go until you get out of that state. Or at least get down the road 50 miles or so.
