Had the same problem. We were in Amish Country in Ohio, and after my wife checked in she said she found "the perfect answer" to our problem. Every furniture place that sold "Amish Furniture" had one of these in different styles, woods, finishes, etc. Found a link to something similar here. Ours has two coasters on the top. That's what we put between the rockers.
For the sofa, we found a "C Table" that I have a link here..
