I'm sorry for your damage but thanks for posting. I had no idea a hitch could come open enough with the king pin locked in place it's no wonder some hitch manufacturers have the warning about testing to make sure it's locked. I have never done that as up until 3years ago I used a DSP hitch which is totally impossible to pop open after latched, there are no jaws. My new hitch is a B&W companion which uses jaws and while I like the hitch the jaws have concerned me. I might suggest if no luck with Reese that you take this further as it's a very dangerous situation as a 5th wheel uses no safety chains.
