This is exactly what I have for a set up.
Also what we have. I use a Toyota echo for daily driving, it's a 2001 and cost us next to nothing to own and operate. Have a chevy 3500 DRW Diesel for towing. We had a 2500 HD GMC with the 8.1 motor and it towed ok but was really close to the rear axle weight with the pin weight of our trailer which is 16K and the stuff in the truck and us it always felt like the truck was at it max it was ok but just loaded. I will say from my experience towing a large fifth wheel with a truck at or close to its rear axle/tire ratings then having towed the same trailer with the 3500 DRW diesel there is no comparison . If at all possible go with the DRW you wont be sorry . good luck
