Friends we run with have a 5ver similar to size and weight of ours. They recently upgraded from a SRW F-350 LB diesel to a Ram 3500 LB diesel dually and he says it's like night and day. Easier towing with stability making for a much more comfortable pull.
Says he wish he would have made the switch earlier...I've been trying to tell him...now he believes!!!
For those that want to live on the edge of safety pulling a heavy rig that is your choice.
Safe travels.
You were doing fine until you had to throw the "safety jab". There is nothing unsafe about towing with a SRW within it's designed capacity. There are those that are paranoid......and they should probably have duallies on the steering axle as well.
I've had both - and the dually does well with the current rig, but I certainly don't feel reborn :R
Agree, don't know how we're getting into the "unsafe" end of it unless the 1 ton SRW truck is grossly over weight...but that would go for any of them, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton Dually...yeah, if well over loaded....it would be unsafe.......As long as any of these trucks are used within the trucks specs, should be ok....
The ONLY difference I think one could talk about would be that the towing experience seems to be a "little more stable" when towing a heavy 5er with a dually versus with a SRW truck...My experience may be different than others....guess if I towed in the "flat lands", I might not think that, but I don't. I'm going up and down, up and down, driving at times, some very curvy, mountainous road....as long as the truck isn't overloaded, the ONLY difference I could allude to would be that the DRW, TO ME, SEEMS to allow one's 5er to be a little more stable tracking being the truck in mountains, curvy road driving....that's all...
Yeah, they allow more GVWR and GCWR, but if you don't need it, then don't get a dually, if, like some, you don't need a dually, but you feel, like me, that the towing experience is better, then get a dually.....sometimes I believe the "safety label" depends on whose behind the wheel and what they're driving habits are like....more so than how many wheels are on the rear axle
