Duramax L5P Fuel Mileage

Anyone have any real world experience with the fuel economy of the new GM L5P Duramax in a 3500 DRW?

  • 19-21 solo in FL. 8-9.5 towing 15400 lb. fiver @70 mph in the SE USA. Truck performs very nicely!
  • MY signature TV gets between 9.5 - 10.5 hauling my signature 5ver. I don't use it that much other than towing.
  • A bit of a hijack here, but this MPG talk reminds me of a summer job I had in the mid '70s carrying drywall (what a way to make a living). There was a regular run out to one of Calgary's bedroom communities, about 20 miles, mostly highway. There was a gooseneck loaded with drywall, pulled by a Chevy 2500 454. We got between 2 & 3 MPG. How things have changed!
  • My L5P last summer got 23 L/100 Km which works out to 10.2267 (US)MPG towing my rig as in signature, GVWR on the trailer is 16,000 Lb and I'm close to that.

Empty this past winter I've been getting about 17 L/100 Km which works out to 13.8362 (US)MPG with lots of warming up idling and slippery snow driving using winter fuel. I get better than that in the summer though.
  • Howdy!

I recently purchased a new Chevy 3500 DRW Duranax Custom 2L Hauler. Did our first long pull today towing a 18,000lb plus 44’ Cyclone Toy Hauler. The computer show 8.8 mpg. Truck did a great job towing considering I down sized from a 4400 International Custom 2L Hauler.
