Electric Awning Issue

I have a Dometic electric awning on my Keystone 5ver and it got a bubble in the middle of the fabric. I contacted Dometic and they told me to take it to a local dealer and they would replace it. A week later I took it to the dealer down the street (first mistake) instead of driving an hour to my normal dealer, they replaced the fabric after two weeks. At the dealer I opened the awning prior to departing and really didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Over the 4th of July weekend I took it out and my DW found that they installed the fabric in the slot where you can put your hooks in for outside lights in. This morning I took it back and they told me it was installed correctly and that normally you don't have a channel that is open. This made me furious from the previous experience with this dealership so I got rather animated and very vocal at this point. Sorry for the long lead-in but does anyone else have their open slot filled with the fabric from the awning where you can't use it? The install tech was sure that the awning fabric was installed correctly, I have called Dometic and they are customer service only not technical and I can't find the install instructions on-line.
  • I would take a look a other units on their lot and compare. If all the others are put in the slot like yours then they have it right. If all of the others are the way yours used to be I would point out that the factory must not know what they are doing and the dealer should fix every unit on their lot. I will bet they will repair yours to the original specs as there should be two slots.
  • There are 2 channels on the awning roller. One for the fabric, one for hooks, lights, etc. The channel for the hooks also has a slot in the rear white roller end cap so you can remove hooks by sliding them out of the end. If they put the fabric in this channel, then yes they used the wrong channel.
