I had a brass plug with a couple wraps of plumbers tape in my last trailer for 12 years until I sold it. I have a brass plug in my new one also. I drain my tank after every trip. I am all done messing with those stupid nylon plugs that are worthless.
Nylon drain plug, no tape needed, hand tighten and then just snug up with a socket.
Unless WH Tank drain hole threads are buggered up ----no leaks and no need to crank down on nylon plug
Never had a Nylon plug break off, have to drill out/use a hot screw driver etc and none leak.
If WH Tank threads gouged/buggered up buy a 1/2" NPT brass nipple 6" long. Use a hacksaw to cut 3 groves lengthwise in threads then run nipple in/out of WH tank drain hole to cleanup/straighten the aluminum threads.
