Francesca, have you actually walked into tire shops ( you say "most", so can we assume you have walked into several different shops and asked ) and actually, really, truly been turned down when you requested to do a swap like this ???
I for one would not request such a deration, so the answer is of course "no". Not that you would believe me if I said I had- or had ever even been inside a tire shop.
I s'pose Walmart's nationwide tire operation is no "expert" in your mind, but for what it's worth here's the language posted at their page for one tire recommended previously: the

I'm not arguing type, just load carrying capacity. Which according to presumably competent authorities (see one below) must be equal to or greater than that of the originally spec'd tires.
