Something similar happened to me a few years ago, and at the time my AAA coverage only paid for the car tow, just as in your case.
Trailer tow cost over $200.00!!!
That motivated me to upgrade to "plus RV", and it's been well worth it...one incident involving multiple flats on the tow vehicle required transport more than 75 miles, and it was all covered....
No help this time, I know, but food for thought, maybe.
