Last saturday while I was at a dump station a young man came in behind me and as I was was just finishing, I shoved in the hose and moved up so he could dump. He yelled to me he just needed water so I moved up further. He got to the fresh water and just stood there, looking around. I walked back to see what the trouble was and he said he couldn't find where to fill the tank. A brand new Starcraft fiver and you fill the tank on the Starboard side and hook up the water to the port side. Now he needed a hose to reach under or around the camper just to fill his tank. Being he knew the campground had no full hookups and a new camper he hadn't got around to buying a hose yet. I offered to lend him one but he said he would just turn around and go in the wrong way to get water. What kind of designer would do something like that. And the water inlet is almost 6 ft above the ground on the Port (left) side. Genius

Mine fills from the curb side and hooks to water street side.

Its more common than you realize, been that way on many RVs for years. The inlet also has to be higher than the tank.

It would be quite an inconvenience with that type of set-up, but apparently more common than many would think according to the responses. Unfortunately, engineering a perfect anything is seldom a reality, particularly in the RV sector.

Engineering? RV's? Huh?, I fear they have never crossed paths.

Germaphobes and OCD seem to always crop up when the subject of waste tanks, potable water and rv sewage is discussed.

Common sense will handle majority of concerns.........

Fill your fresh water tank with a potable water hose.
Connect 'city water' source with a potable water hose

Use a regular garden hose for connection to waste tank flush
Use a regular garden hose for connection to a macerator

Just remember......regardless of your set up. There is only 1 (one) water connection at the source be it full hook up CG or just a water station.
Dump stations MAY have a non-potable water connection (MAY) but all other connections are typically potable water so BOTH drinking water & flush/rinse water starts at the hose bib.

I always hold the end of the hose up and flow water back over it for a minute or so. This will flush any free microbes from the surface of the hose end. We found flushing to be a very effective cleaning method in my college bacteriology class.
