Looks like the designers of RV's are smarter and have more common sense than this thread's OP. It has a lot to do with keeping the RV water TANK free of harmful bacteria.
In a CG site with hookups, your own hose is screwed on once and is gasket sealed for each RV length of stay while nearly all water tank fills are just shove the dump station hose end or your fill adapter down the fill neck and with having an immense dangerous bacteria possibilities. Dump stations are notoriously ripe with rampid bacteria as so many use them each day and some are real filty RV'ers who hardly ever grace their hands alone with soap and water and spill S--T and you name it all over the area and just leave it. You want that in or near your fresh water tank/tank fill? Be my guest!
Having the water tank fill on the opposite side means you will likely use your own 10 ft fresh water hose they sell at RV supply places specifically for that purpose. You know who used your own hose and how clean you keep it and any fill adapters you use! Of course as said, the fill is up high as it must be well above the water tank's top or water would flow back out or every time you turned a corner that centrifically pushed the water level higher on the inlet hose side. VERY smart thinking and design as most thinking/experienced RV'ers know so well!
All of our high end RV's have the both sides arrangement and we sure like it. Many of the cheapie RV's will have it all on the sewer dump side and usually close together! NO THANKS!
