I would like to thank everyone for their advice and interest in helping. I am sincerely grateful and amazed at the volume of people interested in helping. This is a great community to be sure.
As for my battery issues, I wanted to put a capstone on it. The batteries (new when I bought the trailer 7 months ago) are not great. They are duralast 24MD-DL. They are very poorly reviewed on the autozone website. One of the two batteries tested clearly bad (~7.2V under load). The other straddled “weak” to “acceptable” (~10.7V under load) according to my new HF battery load tester. Even though the bad battery was clearly under warranty, autozone had no interest in replacing as I was not the original purchaser. Afterward, I took the advice offer by kerrlakeRoo and purchased GC2 6 volt batteries. I will install them tonight and look forward to testing them this weekend in Ocotilla Wells. I expect the furnace (not the heater) to be working wonderfully though the night.
Like many on the board, I could manage a chilly California desert night with a warm sleeping bag or couple of extra blankets. My dilemma is that my wife and kids are less interested in the simple solutions and prefer the modern conveniences. I love to get away and ride dirt bikes in the desert so I am apt to do what ever gets me the most camping trips.
Again, thanks for all of the great help and feedback.
