Extended Warranties

New to the RVing world. Recently Purchased a new Heartland Bighorn 5th wheel. Are the extended warranties worth the money for a 5th wheel or simply a pain and not worth the money.

Does Anyone have any exspierence with Good Sam Warranty Plans or with a company called Wholesale Warranties which is trying to push a warranty from FIRST EXTENDED SERVICE CORPORATION, CHICAGO, IL.

  • Why do we feel we have to get our Money back on a Extended warranty. It is like a insurance policy and how many insurance policies do we get our money back on??
  • Well, most insurance policies are for catastrophic coverage, such as life insurance, homeowners insurance, health insurance. Auto insurance is mandatory in most states.

EW's however, are for much less that catastrophic coverage, except in some rare situations. And it's totally optional.

  • Purchase of the extended warranty would be for when the Manufactures warranty has exspired.
  • We have a 2011 Heartland Bighorn 3055RL Fifth Wheel that we purchased new in 2010. We haven't had any problems with it, but as a safeguard, we just bought the Good Sam Extended Warranty with the slide out room add-on. For us, since we are keeping ours for some time, the warranty is worth it. Time will tell if we ever use it or if it's worth it. We got a quote from Wholesale Warranties and the fact that we do not full time, we camp occasionally, decided against the $1K plus price. Good Sam was more affordable and they are on track with their customer service.
  • Our 5th wheel is in now for the replacement of two holding tanks that our G.S extended warranty is paying for. That is going to be a bunch of $$$.
  • I think its a personal choice. Roll the dice and you could win or lose. My RV fridge was $1900 to replace and it was 5 years old. Fortunatly the wife talked me into the extended warrenty which was less than the cost of the fridge.

Didn't you have 5 tank failures on the 3400RL?
