Extended Warranty ? - Again....

Hi Team,

WE own a 2015 37 foot Evergreen Amped Toyhauler. Pretty loaded (5500 Watt Generator, dual A/C, dual awinings, rear deck, etc...).

I have a price on a 7 year (actually 6 years as it starts on in-service date) of $2500 for a XtrRide Platinum. It is an exclusionary warranty and pretty much covers everything but the usual (wear and tear, roof, fabrics, etc.). $100 deductible.

The slide out mechanism on the slide room has bee problematic and resulted in a total removal of the slide to replace the entire mechanism. I have concerns about another failure in the future.

So, for the first time in my life (yes I am a avid "No Extended Warranty Guy" on everything), I am considering taking the extended warranty.

Another note, we use our RV extensively and are on the road 3 to 6 months a year with it. This is our third RV and we think 3 is a charm. WE plan to keep it for at least 5 more years.

So am I nuts to consider the extended warranty? Current warranty expires in a few days...

Thanks in advance for the inputs
Dan

  • I would not buy an Xtrride extended warranty. Bought it with our first trailer and had 2 items that I thought it should have covered, but in the FINE print they were able to exclude the items.
One of the items was broken shackles on the suspension and the other was a leaking seam in the slide. If I hadn't bought the warranty and instead put that money into a savings account for maintenance items I would be that much ahead.
If you decide on that warranty make sure you fully understand what it covers and like they say buyer beware.
  • have them under line where the slide is covered,, that sounds like normal wear if I was the adjuster.... because I get a nice bonus check for all the money I save the company.
  • How much did it cost to repair the slide last time? Less than $2600???
  • The Bear II,

Thanks for the reply. Been reading their Blog on Extended Warranties. Lots of good info, however I missed where they recommend a company. Could you provide a link?

    Thanks

  • I'd never purchased an extended warranty until I purchased the 5er in my sig. Jayco does have 2 yr warranty on my unit, but the plan is to retire 1st. of August, so I purchased the Jayco 7 yr extended warranty plan, "just in case".:)
  • Read through the blog entries at www.rv-dreams.com
These folks research extensively any major purchases and they have done great research on RV extended warranties. They found one they are happy with and have become spokespeople for the company.
