The ecoboost gets much better mpg than your diesels empty, which it usually would be. I can get a 2011 ecoboost for about the same money as a 2008 Duramax.....
What sort of real world fuel economy does an eco thingy get in town? My 2004 Duramax/Allison saw 20 highway on occasion. My 4.10 rear end equipped Cummins dually sees 17.5 unloaded highway fuel economy all the time. Of course I did not buy my Cummins for a grocery getter. I bought it to work towing my fiver. If you need a daily driver then get the eco and be sure to get a well matched size trailer for it.
