Even with the hype of Eco boost which is just hype to sell a turbo charged motor, you are still asking a half ton truck to the job of a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton. I can tell you from experience that once you look at the components of the different trucks such as brakes and suspension then tow with each your gonna find the more truck you have in front of what ever you tow is the better option.
I started out with a 28 ft 5th with a 1/2 ton and ended up with a 3/4 ton cummins , from there I towed my current 5th with the 3/4 truck and ended up with the 1ton dually that I now use. When you put safety first you for you and your family you will decide the bigger truck may just be the best choice.
I challenged the guys I work with that just bought Eco boost trucks to pull my bumper pull 10,000lb utility trailer empty and they refused...that tells you something there.
