you are considering payload which is the right way to start off thinking.

for what its worth - although I have a diesel engine im pulling a 32 foot 5th with my 2500 chevy that comes in around 13,000. I am over my payload by about 15% but under in almost all other numbers. Truck does amazing. Absolute joy to tow with.
