Fifth Wheel Brakes - Owner's Survey

I've been talking to some FW owners about their brakes and I'm surprised how many don't know what kind of brakes they have. So, let's see how you do:

The Brakes on my Fifth Wheel are:

A. Manual Adjusting
B. Self Adjusting
C. I don't know

If they are manual adjusting, how often do you adjust them (or pay someone to do it):

1. Never
2. Annually
3. Every few years
4. Every 3,000 miles.
5. Every 10,000 miles
6. I didn't know you had to adjust them.
7. Brake adjustments are not required if I adjust my electric trailer brake.

    Manual adjust yearly
    Test before pulling
Test occasionally on dirt for all 4 able to lock up.
Occasionally pull break away pin to see if it actually works. Does no good to be safety crazy and have a battery in it if you never actually test the system.
  • Hydraulic over electric automotive disk brakes and they work better than anything I have ever had before by far.
  • Manual 12" x 2" electric

Adjust brakes at least once a year

Check axial play every 2 years.......Nev-R-Lube brgs.
  • B. Self Adjusting
But I do check them atleast once a year when I repack the bearings, and yes I know it is overkill.
