There you have hit the nail. Although I go by GVWR ( just in case of civil suits) you now have brought in what is really legal, your RAWR. Usually the tires are the weak part of the entire axle weight ratings.
Most if not all of the higher ratings the last 3-4 years has to do with bigger rated tires.
Not saying your right or wrong here, but somewhere in the middle :W
