Finally pulled the trigger on a 5er

Well, after 6 years of owning a travel trailer, that we bought used, and battling the issues we have had with that unit, we finally decided today to trade it in and jump into a brand new 2018 Open Range 370RBS fifth wheel. This will be our first 5er, and probably our last. I am hoping it tows easier than the travel trailer. Any tips as I make the change from travel trailer to fifth wheel?

  • Congratulations on your new trailer. She's going to back differently than your TT so practice. If you're backing line is off, pull forward and start again. The 5er's turning reaction is too slow to make corrections. Make sure you swing way wide when turning as your long trailer will like to cut corners. Double check your hitch connection and don't forget to put the tailgate up. Enjoy that front living area.
  • Make absolutely positively sure you have enough truck. Anything marginal and you will hate the towing experience.
