First Time Owner....Jayco Pinnacle or Grand Design Solitude

We went to look at the Reflection but liked the Solitude better at an RV dealer. It had the front living room. The Solitude had some trim coming off...unglued...that surprised me. The guy showed us the Pinnacle with the same up front living area. It was really nice with three air conditioners. Anybody have any advice about choosing between these two models? How much off retail should we expect the dealer to come down? We are very green :) We have read a lot and thought for sure that we wanted the Reflection with the mid bunk but now we want the front living area. We are leaning toward the Jayco Pinnacle. Help! Do not want to make a mistake.
  • The OP was asking about the Solitude VS the Pinnacle not the Reflection which I think is a better Value than the Solitude and you expect cheaper electronics,no rear cap, no Vacuum and mid level suspension and pin box ,the Solitude should have more upgrades for the price, if I was in the market for a Mid-level 5er like the GD Reflection it would be on my list for sure

I would go with the grand design. We almost got a jayco but ended up liking the reflection's quality much better. In fact we just ran into the couple that bought the jayco we were looking at and they hate it, laundry list of things wrong. Not saying we don't have some issues, seems they all do. The previous comment on inferior quality is right only on the electronics, they are cheap. I don't believe grand design is owned by jayco.

    ummmm, NO, not true.

I think Sunnyside may be confusing GD with the Highland Ridge folks.

As for those units, I'd get whichever one gives you the most options and amenities for your money. Both are excellent choices.

    You're exactly right. Whoops. :B

  • We purchased a Grand Design Reflection several months ago. We're extremely pleased with it. This is our 3rd 5th wheel and by far the best. It has been trouble free so far. We absolutely love it and would purchase another without hesitation. Their customer service is outstanding.
Depending on the dealer you should be able to negotiate as much as 30% discount.
    Good luck

  • I've owned 3 Jaycos - a 1979 Cardinal pop-up, a 1996 Designer 3030RKSS 5th wheel and a 2000 Designer XL 3610RLTS 5th wheel. All were good units that gave us reliable service at their respective price points, and Jayco's warranty and customer service were absolutely first rate. If they had a 5th wheel on the market comparable to the 2004 DRV Mobile Suites 36RE3 we purchased, I might still be a Jayco owner.

I would negotiate with a goal of 30% off list. Right now is the "hot" season for RVs and the dealership may not want to move much. If you really like that model, and the dealership, check back with them in November / December and see if they are ready to make a deal. Check your configuration over at seedealercost.com.

GD is a newer manufacturer that is owned by Jayco, and now ultimately Thor Industries. They have pretty good warranty support and work hard to keep customers happy. The good news is that I hear pretty similar comments about Jayco.

    Good Luck!
  • I would pick the Jayco Pinnacle myself with the 2 year warranty,I know 2 folks with Solitudes and I like them just fine and they are Not bad 5er's at all but they cheap out on too many things for me like old school 10in frame vs Jayco 12 inch , no nice rear Cap(Flatbacker) and bottom of the Barrel TV's and Sound systems,no Vacuum systems no Ceiling fans, cheaper suspensions and Pin Box that other brands use on their less expensive models and 3 step entry VS 4 step ,not Bashing the GD Solitude's but when I am spending 60-70K I want the best bang for my buck....when I went shopping and bought my 5er in 2015 I almost bought the Jayco Pinnacle over my Montana I like Solitudes but like I said the Solitude lacks too much for me IMO...just my 2 bits
