I use chains more as a habit with my gooseneck farm trailer so I just keep my chains connected with turnbuckles on my pu floor & the hooks to the different trailers.
Our Texas chain law is confusing as stated ball type hitchs require chains but next sentence says a fifthwheel hitch doesn't need chains and my AUH is a fifthwheel hitch period. Heck, unless you looked over in the bed, hooked up you can't see the connection poi so who would know . Now a wreck might get it noticed if you don't have the chains but I doubt it.
