We always carry at least 1/3 of a tank. We have had too many emergencies, change of plans, bad weather conditions, etc. not to. 30 Gals is only about 240 lbs. If one is that close to the edge of weight capacity, one really should reconsider either what they are carrying or what they are towing with.
