Fold up stairs blocking door

I’m not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in, so moderator please feel free to move it if it belongs somewhere else.
Anyway, my 5er has the big set of steps that fold up behind the door. Although they are nice and sturdy, once I back my 5er into my garage, I can’t get in it because there isn’t enough room to drop down the stairs. I’m sure I’m not the only one that has this problem so I’m looking for ideas. I’m thinking something along the lines of a couple of pins that can be pulled to remove the stairs and then just use a stool to step into the trailer when in storage or something along those lines. Any ideas of what I can do?

  • Torklift Glowstep Revolution has just released a model that will replace yours allowing you the option of using them in such a confined area. Just got word of these.

  • Are those steps optional? If not, then any rig that has them is right off my list.

  • Maybe they'll reinvent the wheel and go back to the fold under the floor steps. I like them just fine.

It doesn't look like this can be done. On the fivers that come with the MorRyde steps the space where folding steps would normally fold into doesn't exist.

The space exists. You would have to cut and remove a piece of lower skirt, and weld or bolt in the attachment ears for the Glo steps. You might have to remove / relocate an outrigger.

They are not using these strait types of stairs because they're better, they use them because they're cheaper to buy and install.

We had those steps, they are FANTASTIC.... just as sturdy as the steps you have now.. I have had BOTh styles and there is NO difference...

Take off the Morryde, or Lippert version, sell them and buy a set of the Torklift Glow Step.....

Can you do something before you back into the garage?

That’s what I’m trying to figure out. Before I back it into the garage I’d like to remove the steps so once in the garage I can access the trailer if needed. I don’t want to unbolt them each time though, so I’m looking for an easier method. I’m pretty handy and mechanical, so I’m sure I can come up with a solution, but was hoping someone else had already come up with a solution to this problem. I’m sure it has come up numerous times already.
  • your exact situation is the one large downside to these steps. I do LOVE the rigidity of them, but when in storage I rarely have the room to deploy/use this great upgrade. I hope that industry comes up with a work around for those of us that end up in narrow spaces occasionally.
