With the right hitch you just remove the covers on the holes and drop the hitch right in. The rails are already installed. You won't be able to use a hitch not designed for this. Pullrite, B&W, and Reese make hitches for this prep package. I know there are some other hitches designed to install in the prep package.
I think there are some adapters available that let you use some other hitches. I don't know anything about those other than the fact that they exist.
It takes us less than 10 minutes to install or remove our Pullrite.
