Coach-man, your water filter is designed only to remove particles from the water, there is no charcoal or any other device to remove chlorine or change the taste of the water. By putting the chlorine into the filter it will not make to the water tank. The filter is after the pump. You will only get chlorine into you water lines doing it this way.
Depends on the plumbing.
On my 5th wheel, water flows through the onboard water filter before entering the fresh water holding tank.
Also, I run a charcoal filter in my onboard water filter. It will remove some of the chlorine. I bypass the charcoal water filter when filling my fresh tank.
The. Filter that came with the rig, is a PUR FLO, which you can buy from camping world. However, the cartridge can be any 2" x 10" cartridge, I installed a while back one with charcoal to remove chlorine smell/taste. It is plumbed in front of everything, from the hose connection the water goes to the filter, from there it goes to a selector switch where I can select what I want to do, I.e. Fill fresh water tank, city water, dry camp, etc. What I want to do, is remove the cartridge holder, and the cartridge. Then using the cartridge holder to put the bleach in there and screw it back into the plumbing. Then putting the selector switch to "fill fresh water tank" and turn on the water, which should go thru the holder, pick up the bleach and fill the fresh water tank. When full I would turn off the water, switch the selector to dry camp, and run both hot and cold water at all locations as recommended previously. The pump should draw the water & bleach from the fresh water tank and distribute it threw out the system. Please let me now where I am going wrong with this? I do not see the difference of trying to pour the bleach into a hose, or pouring it into a 2" empty cartridge holder. Thanks!
