Fresh water tank plants

My fresh water tank is somewhat see through. There is mold or something on the inside walls and also a seaweed looking material comes out of the tank.

We don't drink this water but we shower and wash dishes with it.

Is this water harmful to use on dishes?

How did this happen in the first place?

How do I remedy this easily without having to remove the whole tank and do some major job?

Thanks.

Put a cup of bleach in the tank, fill it up, and let it sit overnight, drain and flush until clear. Good idea every year before the camping season.

If then green slimey stuff has gotten that bad, you, might need to rinse and repeat a few times. As bad as yours sounds, having the tank half loaded with heavy bleach water and going for a drive might be a good idea. Take the drive with lots of turns, starts and stops to slosh the bleach water around. Any RR crossing or something similar that get the RV rocking could also help.
